When the founders of Plant Ranger approached me, they were looking for a brand that captured the friendly, down-to-earth spirit of the Pacific Northwest — part forest ranger, part plant enthusiast. They wanted something approachable, outdoorsy, and versatile enough to grow with them across packaging, marketing, and digital platforms.
I developed a cohesive visual identity centered around this theme, designing the logo and a custom icon system for their app. Each icon represented a unique state of the plant — from soil moisture and light levels to air humidity and temperature. Translating technical data into simple, visually intuitive icons was a creative challenge, but also one of the most fun parts of the project. The result was a set of designs that feel both functional and full of personality, tying together the app’s user experience and the brand’s warm, nature-inspired aesthetic.
While I didn’t design the website, the Plant Ranger team — led by one of the founders, a software and web developer — carried the branding and icons forward beautifully on plantranger.com, creating a seamless extension of the brand online.
